Some of the featured performers will include pop dance band Sweet Sensation, the female rap group Salt-N-Pepa, the dance band Inner City, singer Noel, rapper Queen Latifah and pop star Nona Hendryx. Other performers are Cynthia and Johnny O, Dan Hartman, Barry Lather, Denise Lopez, Abby Lynn, Sakad, Whistle, Rockapella and Sharon Redd.

Edward Morgan, a dancer with the Joffrey Ballet, will perform with a group of nine dancers calling them- selves Electricity. “I got my friends to help out,” said Morgan. During the week, he dances the role of the mouse king in “The Nutcracker” at City Center. But tomorrow night, he will be doing “a hip-hop, jazz, video potpourri.” Celebrity emcees Linda Lavin (who will arrive late after playing in “Gypsy”), Chita Rivera, Fred Schneider of the B-52’s and ballet stars Jock Soto and Heather Watts will introduce the singers. Benefit organizers hope the hip musical lineup will attract a new group of GMHC supporters. “We want to appeal to a younger, more ethnically diverse audience,” Evert said. “Our goal is to
reach out and be innovative.”

Dear Edward:

On behalf of Gay Men’s Health Crisis and the more than 3,200 men, women and children with AIDS whom we serve, we would like to express our thanks and appreciation for your outstanding performance at GH’s first AIDS Dance-a-thon.

“Electricity” was electrifying. It was wonderful to have an exciting dance piece included in the program. The performance set a high-energy example for the 6,200 dancers who raised $1.25 million dollars for GMHC’s client services, AIDS prevention, and advocacy programs. We especially appreciate your herculean efforts to choreograph and direct the piece in so little time.

With the same warmth and enthusiasm that permeated the Javits Center last Saturday night, we again express our gratitude to you and the dancers for sharing your talent and helping to make the event such a giant success.

Sincerely,

Timothy J. Sweeny – Executive Director

Craig R. Miller – Co-Producer AIDS Dance-a-thon

Laurie Fabiano – Entertainment Coordinator AIDS Dance-a-thon

P.S. As a small token of our appreciation, we will be sending performers official AIDS Dance-a-thon sweatshirts featuring the fantastic Keith Haring graphic. You should receive the sweatshirts by mid-January.
